Black History Moment: Juneteenth

And now for your Black History Moment

Today we recognize Juneteenth. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. It symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States and is a day of reflection, celebration, and education about African American history and culture.Juneteenth became a state holiday in Texas on January 1, 1980. Texas was the first state to make Juneteenth a holiday. In 2021, President Joe Biden signed legislation that made Juneteenth a federal holiday.

And this concludes your Black History Moment. You better wake up and pay attention!
